XTreme Teams: Where Science and Technology Collide (Grades 9-12)
Interested in the environment? Love being outdoors? Team up with experienced staff from Land Information Access Association (LIAA) for a week of technology and watershed investigations. Use digital and video cameras along with high-end sound recording equipment to record sights and sounds on rivers, beaches, and out-of-the-way places throughout the G.T. Bay watershed. Use GPS units to geo-reference your collections, then translate them into digital maps, radio, and TV stories. Your work will be posted on the "Listening to the River" project website and incorporated into a new exhibit for the Great Lakes Children's Museum. Parents are invited to a one-hour overview on the first day. Class has been partially underwritten by a grant from the National Science Foundation. Financial aid is also available (call NMC at 995-1700).
