LISTEN...LEARN...
LEAVE YOUR HANDPRINT ON YOUR WATERSHED.
Teens are invited to participate in a workshop that combines technology and watershed science this summer. The three-day, hands-on Listening to the River workshop offers experiences in using the latest high-tech "gear" to record sights and sounds throughout the Grand Traverse watershed.
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?
Any student age 13-17 who has a strong interest in the environment and in using multi-media equipment. Experience with computers and the willingness to be outdoors are prerequisites.
WHAT WILL YOU DO?
You will take daily hikes, explore key watershed concepts, and learn to use audio recording decks and digital cameras along with global positioning systems units. You will learn digital recording techniques and then use the latest editing software to produce brief audio pieces or photo essays. Your work will be posted on the interactive maps of the Listening to the River web site, where it will contribute to a "mediascape" of the Grand Traverse area.
All classes start and end at the Land Information Access Association on Munson Avenue in Traverse City. Transportation for field trips and lunch are provided.
WHEN DOES IT HAPPEN?
The sessions run from 9:00 - 4:30; Choose either July 23-25 or Aug. 4-6, 2008.
WHAT DOES IT COST?
Only $50. Grant funds from the National Science Foundation support the balance of the program costs. Participants receive some LTTR apparel and a DVD of their work.
